Your missionDorel Juvenile is looking for a Soft Goods Design Engineer to join the team at our Design and Development Center in Foxboro, MA. The Engineer is responsible for developing Soft Goods designs for a variety of juvenile products, including car seats, strollers and home juvenile products.
Key responsibilitiesResearch market competitors and trends within all relevant and parallel industries. Create initial concept sketches. Use 2D and 3D skills to create initial patterns and white samples. Develop 2D and 3D presentation materials; communicating soft goods construction to domestic and overseas sample and manufacturing teams, reviewing and revising samples to meet final approved standards; partnering with teams in the US and Asia to create and refine patterns and construction specifications from initial sewing samples through to final production.
Your profileThe Engineer must have a hands-on approach with strong visual communication through sketching and 3-Dimensional development including sample sewing. They will have strong verbal and written communication, organizational, and presentation skills with a proven ability to work well with cross-functional teams. Key interfaces are with Fashion, Soft Goods Engineering, Model/Prototyping team, Marketing, Industrial Design and Project Management. Must be able to multi-task well and work in a fast paced environment with demanding deadlines. Bachelor’s degree in related design or engineering discipline and experience developing innovative products. Ability to create and evaluate 2D concept drawings and convert into 3D models. Technical sewing skills for constructing soft goods for mechanized products. Pattern drafting skills to generate prototype sewing patterns, as well as final manufacturing production patterns. In-depth experience with industrial sewing machinery and soft good manufacturing. Strong knowledge of textiles types and manufacturing processes, from raw fibers to finished goods. Strong aesthetic sense, with ability to evaluate and make material/quality recommendations. Self-motivation, excellent communication and follow up skills a must. Strong computer skills, specifically in MS Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop and Illustrator. Experience with Gerber Lectra preferred, additional software such as Solidworks a plus. Must be able to travel domestic as well as internationally. Anticipated travel is two trips from 1-2 weeks in duration per year.
